First visit to a bowling alley

The following is a step-by-step guide to visiting a bowling alley and the reception procedure.

About reservations

If you are not making a reservation for a group, you can visit on the same day.On the other hand, most bowling alleys do not allow reservations for general use. However, it is possible to make a reservation at ROUND1, which is a complex facility.Check the bowling alley site you are visiting in advance to be sure.

About the time of day

Many bowling alleys are open from early morning until around midnight, and all bowling alleys are often crowded on weekends and holidays. On weekdays, most bowling alleys are relatively empty from the morning until around evening, but there is an impression that the number of people increases at night.
Even if it is crowded, you can still play if you register for bowling and get a lane. However, if it is crowded, the staff may be too busy to ask questions, or you may be concerned about your surroundings. For such people, one option is to visit during the daytime on a weekday.

Reception Method

When you arrive at the bowling alley, you should register. You may find an application form at the front desk or around the front desk.In recent years, some places have reception machines using touch panels, etc., like the one in ROUND 1.

Filling out the form

In most cases, the following information is to be included when handwritten applications are accepted.

  • Player’s name (nickname)
There is a space for the player’s name.Fill in the names of the players for the number of people in the room. You may use nicknames instead of real names. If you are not sure, you can use alphabet letters such as A, B, C, etc.
  • Representative’s name (real name), address and phone number
Representative’s name (real name), phone number and address may be required.
  • Membership Information
Membership information may be based on the rank of your membership based on annual dues paid or usage. If there is nothing special, choose “General”.
  • Age Category
In some cases, fees vary depending on the age category.Select the appropriate age category in the respective player column.
  • Shoes availability
Special shoes are required for bowling alleys, and in most cases, rental shoes are generally rented.
If you do not have shoes, choose “no shoes” (rental shoes). The rental shoes cost about 300 yen to 500 yen.By the way, you can also purchase entry model bowling shoes for about 3,000 yen, so it is more economical to buy them if you are going to bowl for a long time.

Payment of fees

In most cases, fees are paid in advance for set fee structures such as 3-game packages, and in most cases, fees are paid afterwards for general use.

Preparation of Shoes and Balls

  • Shoes

After completing the registration, you will be guided to your lane number. The lane number you are given is the lane you will be playing in.Before going to the lane, go to the shoe rental corner to borrow shoes. If your size does not fit after borrowing the shoes, the staff will exchange them for you.

  • Balls

After renting shoes, the next step is the ball. The ball that is set up in the bowling alley is called the house ball. The differences between house balls are weight, finger hole size, and finger hole spacing.Select an appropriate ball considering your finger size and ease of grip.

Basic Rules of Bowling

Bowling is a game in which ten pins stand on a board called a lane, and a ball is rolled to knock down the pins.Simply put, the higher the score, the more pins you knock down with fewer throws.First of all, the pitching order and score calculations are done automatically on the monitor screen, so there is no need for participants to manage the pitching order and score calculations.Remember the following terms

  • Strike
To knock down 10 pins on the first throw.
Bonus points will be awarded for the next two strikes in addition to the 10 points for that frame.
  • Spare
To knock down a total of 10 pins on the first and second throws.
Bonus points are awarded for the next throw in addition to the 10 points for that frame.
  • Gutter
The ball must fall at the end of the lane on the first throw and not a single ball must fall over.

Manners in a bowling alley

The following etiquette should be observed at bowling alleys.

  • Keep your turn
Wait your turn when other players are pitching.
  • Refrain from noise:
    Avoid shouting or making noise.
  • Do not cross the foul line

The foul line is the line in front of the lane; throwing the ball beyond this line is a foul.A foul will result in zero points for that frame in the official game. The lanes are lined with protective oil, which is very dangerous if it gets on your shoes.
